Abou Fofana is the 2024 winner of the Eye-Bank’s STEM scholarship for $3,000. Abou is a rising sophomore at the State University of New York at Old Westbury, where he is enrolled in the computer science program. In his STEM research paper, he proposed a method of increasing awareness for eye donation that utilizes virtual reality technology to replicate the experience of someone in need of a corneal transplant, thereby fostering a deeper appreciation for the significance of one’s eyesight as well as creating interest in becoming an eye donor by enrolling in the New York State Donate Life Registry.
