“Few things we do in life go on after we are gone.
A legacy gift is one way to ensure that others can benefit from the same opportunity you did.”
-Richard, Cornea Transplant Recipient and Paton Legacy Society Member
Why is sight your legacy?
Since 1944, The Eye-Bank has helped restore sight to more than 75,000 individuals, thanks in part to the generosity of those who have included The Eye-Bank in their wills and trusts.
By leaving a legacy gift you help:
- Restore sight through corneal transplantation
- Support groundbreaking research to fight blindness
- Train surgeons in advanced ophthalmic techniques
- Inspire future generations to donate

Ways to Create Your Legacy
Bequests
Bequests are one of the simplest and most flexible ways to create a legacy. With the guidance of your advisor, you can include The Eye-Bank in your will or living trust, ensuring your estate reflects your values and helps others long into the future.
You may choose to leave a percentage of your estate, a fixed amount, a specific asset, or the remainder after other bequests are fulfilled.
Designation
Naming The Eye-Bank as a beneficiary of an unused asset can help support our work across generations.
Eligible assets include retirement accounts, 401(k), 403(b), Donor-Advised Funds, investment portfolios, insurance policies, annuities, and bank accounts. Contact your account custodian to update The Eye-Bank as your beneficiary designee.
Your estate may also benefit from potential tax savings.
IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution
If you are age 70½ or older, you can make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA. A QCD code counts toward your Required Minimum Distribution and may lower your taxable income, while helping restore sight.
Donor-Advised Fund
A Donor-Advised Fund can offer immediate tax advantages while allowing you to recommend grants over time. You may also name The Eye-Bank as the successor or final beneficiary of your DAF, extending your impact beyond your lifetime. Consult your financial advisor to explore this option.
