On November 15, The Eye-Bank hosted the 2025 Wing Chu, M.D. Cornea Fellow Day at its offices on 120 Wall Street in Manhattan. The one-day program began with a morning didactic session, which included a presentation on two types of advanced surgical techniques used for cornea transplants: Descement’s Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK) and Descement’s Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSAEK). A wet lab following the session provided participants with in-person instruction on performing DMEK surgery.
Named in memory of Wing Chu, M.D., The Eye-Bank’s medical director of more than 30 years, Cornea Fellow Day was first instituted in 2016 to provide an opportunity for physicians specializing in cornea to learn about the mission of eye banking and surgical techniques of corneal transplantation.
The Eye-Bank’s Executive Director and CEO Patricia Dahl, Laboratory Director Hortense Kendall and Laboratory Manager Mudassir Razvi were joined by The Eye Bank’s Medical Advisory Board Chair Joann Kang, M.D., Medical Advisory Board Secretary Ana Alzaga Fernandez, M.D. and Medical Advisory Board Members George Florakis, M.D. and Gabriel Rand, M.D. who served as faculty.
