I have always loved to travel and after college, I took a job as a flight attendant. After Sept. 11, I worked on flights that transported American troops to and from bases and war zones. My challenge came after being diagnosed with keratoconus in my left eye.
Initially, I could wear contact lenses to slow the progression of the disease. However, long hours of flying at high altitudes caused irritation and severe pain in my eye so my eye doctor recommended a corneal transplant.
I am so grateful to my donor for my restored eyesight. I know the sadness of losing a loved one and I understand how generous it was for my donor and the family to make my transplant possible. Thank you.
