The Eye-Bank for Sight Restoration is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the CLEAR-EC Challenge, a new artificial intelligence competition designed to advance corneal endothelial tissue evaluation.
The CLEAR-EC Challenge, led by Lama Al-Aswad, M.D., MPH is hosted in partnership with the University of Pennsylvania’s Scheie Eye Institute, OPTIC Lab and Huang Lab. Partnering eye banks include The Eye-Bank for Sight Restoration, AltruVision, Eye Bank of Kentucky and Georgia Eye Bank.
The Challenge offers the opportunity for researchers, data scientists and others to explore how artificial intelligence can support the future of corneal tissue assessment for transplantation. Participants will use a large dataset of images collected from partnering eye banks to develop predictive models.
By applying artificial intelligence and machine learning to corneal imaging, the Challenge aims to improve the accuracy and efficiency of endothelial tissue evaluation, ultimately supporting higher success rates and reduced rejection in corneal transplantation.
The top three teams will be awarded a total of $30,000.

- Second Place: $7,500
- Third Place: $2,500
