I share my story about eye donation every chance I get because I am only able to see thanks to my eye donor.
I have always had problems with my eyes and remember growing up wearing thick eye glasses and having to sit at the front of the class to see the blackboard.
When I had trouble reading the day’s menu posted on a large board while working as a chef, I knew I was in trouble. Initially, I thought I needed new eyeglasses but my optometrist referred me to a corneal surgeon and he told me I needed a cornea transplant. I had no idea what that was.
At first, I was a little scared to find out the surgery could only be done with a cornea from someone else, but my doctor reassured me. Now, after my successful surgery, I am excited to share how someone has helped me regain my sight. I encourage everyone to sign up to become a donor.
