I was 17 when I had my transplant – that was in 1985. Since then, I’ve lived my life never realizing I could thank my donor’s family and now I am able to do so.
Every day as a teenager, my eyesight grew worse and worse resulting in headaches. It was also getting harder for me to read, and glasses and contacts did not help anymore. It was late summer and I was about to start college when I got a call to go to the hospital for a cornea transplant.
The transplant worked! I could see, I could read without getting headaches! I am now 50 and am still relying on this wonderful gift. I love photography, driving and fixing things – all of which are visual. Please know that I am grateful that your loved one lives on in me today as I am able to see the world. Your family has done something remarkable for me and I thank you for the gift!
